About chiropractic care

Find the fault. Correct it. Keep it corrected.

Every joint in your spine is supposed to move through a specific range. When one stops — from a fall, a repetitive job, hours at a desk, or an old injury — the joints around it overwork and the nerves nearby get irritated.

A chiropractic adjustment is a specific, controlled force applied to that exact joint to restore its motion. Do that consistently, back it with the right movement, and the problem stops coming back.

Thorough examination

History, movement testing, orthopedic and neurological screening, with X-ray referral when clinically warranted.

Technique matched to you

Traditional diversified adjusting or quiet low-force instrument work — your call, and it changes nothing about the result.

Written care plan

Visit count, expected timeline and total cost in writing before you commit to anything.

Home programme

Two or three specific exercises so the correction holds between appointments.

Herniated discs & sciatica

A disc problem doesn’t have to end in surgery

When a disc bulges or herniates, it presses on the nerve behind it — and that pressure is the burning, the numbness, the leg pain you can’t sit through. Non-surgical spinal decompression takes the load off that disc directly, so the disc itself gets a chance to rehydrate and heal.

Sound familiar?

  • Pain that shoots from your low back into a buttock, thigh or calf
  • Numbness, tingling or pins-and-needles in a leg, foot, arm or hand
  • Pain that spikes when you sit, bend forward, cough or sneeze
  • A leg or arm that feels weak, heavy or unreliable
  • An MRI or X-ray that came back “herniation”, “bulge” or “degenerative disc”

Any of these and a decompression candidacy exam is the right next step. Dr. Shawn Handeland will tell you honestly whether you’re a candidate — and help coordinate a referral if surgery is genuinely the better path for your case.

The motorized traction table in our Carlisle office. Sessions run 15–20 minutes — most patients describe them as relaxing, and a few doze off.
  1. 01 Candidacy exam first

Orthopedic and neurological testing — plus a review of any MRI you already have — confirms which disc level is involved and rules out the conditions that make decompression the wrong choice.

  2. 02 Computer-controlled traction

The table cycles gentle stretch and release at a tension and angle dialled in for your spine, creating negative pressure that draws bulging disc material back toward centre and pulls fluid in.

  3. 03 Adjustment and rehab, same visit

Every session finishes with a specific adjustment to restore joint motion and targeted core work, so the disc stays unloaded long after your plan ends.

Most plans run 12–20 sessions over four to six weeks with the visit count, timeline and total cost in writing before you commit — never open-ended treatment.

Benefits of chiropractic care

Six things patients notice in the first month

Drug-free relief

We correct the mechanical fault instead of dulling your perception of it — no prescriptions, no side effects.

Range of motion back

Turning your head to reverse, reaching a top shelf, getting through a shift — the movement you’d written off comes back.

Posture that holds

Ten hours in a truck cab or at a monitor pulls your head forward. We correct it and coach the habits that keep it there.

Real sleep

Stop hunting all night for a position that doesn’t ache and you fall asleep — and stay asleep — more easily.

Energy to spare

Managing chronic pain runs constantly in the background. Take it off your plate and the tank refills.

Fewer flare-ups

Occasional maintenance keeps the joint moving so the same problem doesn’t put you flat on your back twice a year.
